Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Berhad (" Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Berhad ") will extend the after-hours trading hours of selected derivatives contracts from Monday, December 5, 2022. The current after-hours trading session is from 9:00-11:30pm Monday to Thursday and will now be extended to end at 2:30am.
Due to the volatility of global markets, the derivatives exchange must constantly assess the market and meet the changing portfolio risk management needs of investors. The extension of the after-hours trading session provides an opportunity for market participants to narrow price gaps and adjust risk exposure when trading derivatives contracts that react to international market news and events.
Mohd Saleem Kader Bakas, acting Director of the Malaysian Derivatives Exchange, said: "This extension of the trading session will benefit market participants trading the derivatives contract products we offer, such as those trading our newly optimized Gold Futures (FGLD) contract, as gold prices in the spot market are highly correlated with US market news. Macro events can cause product price fluctuations. By extending the trading session, traders will be able to narrow the spread between our closing price and the next day's opening price."
Derivatives contracts that can be traded during after-hours trading hours from 9:00 to 2:30 AM include: Ftse Bursa Malaysia KLCI Futures Contract (FKLI), FTSE Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index Options Contract (OKLI), Mini FTSE Bursa Malaysia Mid-70 Index Futures Contract (FM70), Gold Futures Contract (FGLD), US Dollar Tin Futures Contract (FTIN), 3-month Kuala Lumpur Interbank Offered Rate (K LIBOR) futures contract (FKB3). In addition, the after-hours trading session of the existing palm derivatives contract remains unchanged, still ending at 11:30 p.m.
