Twitter has partnered with Israeli social trading network eToro to enable its users to view market charts and access real-time information about stocks, cryptocurrencies and other financial assets.

The new feature, which began rolling out on the Twitter app on Thursday, effectively extends the platform's $Cashtags feature. In addition, users will be able to go directly to the eToro brokerage site from Twitter and invest in the assets they search for. eToro claims that the partnership with Twitter will not only enhance financial education, but also improve profitability.

In addition to the extended $Cashtags feature and real-time price search, users can also click the "View on eToro" button in the Twitter app, which will direct them to eToro's platform to buy and sell more financial instruments.

In a statement, eToro CEO Yoni Assia said, "Twitter has become an important part of the retail investment community - millions of ordinary investors use it every day to get financial news, share knowledge and talk. There is power in sharing knowledge, and by turning investment into a collective effort, we can collectively achieve better results and become more successful."

A Twitter cash tag is a symbol used on the microblogging service to represent a specific stock or financial asset. Similar to subject tags, cash tags start with a "$" sign and are used to identify and track conversations related to a particular financial asset.

For example, Apple's cash tag is "$AAPL," while Bitcoin's cash tag is "$BTC." Cashtags also allows users to quickly and easily search for tweets related to specific financial assets and follow real-time discussions and news related to them.

Cashtags is widely used by traders, investors and financial professionals on Twitter to share news, insights and analysis about financial markets and personal assets. So an alliance with Twitter could be a huge boon for the UK-listed platform, whose revenue halved last year. According to the press release, there are approximately 4.7 million $Cashtag searches per day on Twitter, with 420 million $Cashtag searches recorded through 2023.

The partnership with eToro is part of Elon Musk's plan to create an "Everything app" for the platform. He has previously expressed admiration for Tencent's wechat, which started as a messaging app and has since grown into an all-in-one platform. Musk also believes that "universal apps" can solve the problem of app overload, where users are forced to use multiple apps for different tasks.
