Despite the Federal Reserve's recent hawkish signals regarding interest rate hikes, Wall Street investment bank Goldman Sachs has not altered its optimistic stance on the precious metals market. The bank's latest research report points out that although tighter monetary policy may slow the pace of gold's ascent in the short term, the long-term upward trend of gold remains intact, with its price target of $5,400 per ounce by the end of 2027 maintained.

Based on this target price, and considering that spot gold is currently trading above $4,355 per ounce, the metal still has a potential upside of approximately 24% over the next few years. In the traditional macroeconomic framework, rising interest rates typically increase the attractiveness of yield-bearing assets, thereby diminishing the investment value of non-yielding gold. However, after the Fed announced a rate hike this week and its dot plot showed that 16 out of 18 officials expect at least one more 25-basis-point hike by the end of the year, the gold market has demonstrated remarkable resilience.

Friday's trading data showed that against the backdrop of a roughly 1% drop in international crude oil prices and the retreat of the U.S. dollar index from its recent highs, spot gold not only avoided downward pressure but actually posted a slight gain. The weakening of the dollar directly lowered the purchasing costs for holders of non-U.S. currencies, providing direct buying support for gold prices.

A deep dive into the current pricing logic of the precious metals market reveals that its core driving forces are undergoing a profound reshaping. In the past, gold price surges were highly dependent on expectations of rate cuts, dollar depreciation, and a high-inflation environment. However, in the current macroeconomic narrative, the continuous and large-scale accumulation of gold reserves by global central banks, the escalating geopolitical risks in the Middle East and elsewhere, and global investors' deep concerns over the debt scale of major economies and the stability of the fiat currency system have replaced traditional interest rate factors as the new cornerstone supporting gold's high-level operation.

It is precisely based on the support of these structural factors that market funds have chosen to enter the market despite the Fed's rate hikes. Traders are closely monitoring the evolution of global monetary policies while continuously assessing the profound impact of international developments on the pricing mechanism of safe-haven assets.
