US President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday evening that Iran had contacted the US hoping to reach an agreement, though he questioned their trustworthiness. Speaking while aboard Air Force One en route back to the United States following the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, Trump told reporters that Iran is desperate for a deal after multiple US strikes. However, he expressed uncertainty over whether they deserve such an agreement. He emphasized that the US has achieved military victory, asserting that Iran has nothing left.
When asked why Iran would seek a deal while continuing to attack merchant vessels, Trump described them as somewhat crazy and out of control, suggesting this precisely indicates their desperation for an agreement. Earlier that day, following Iranian attacks on multiple ships in the Strait of Hormuz and subsequent US retaliatory strikes, Trump announced that the ceasefire between the two nations had ended. He claimed that for every one strike against the US, America retaliates twentyfold. Trump further warned Iran that if its forces continue attacking vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, US retaliatory actions will be significantly more severe.
These remarks came after the US Central Command announced it had launched additional strikes against Iran, described as retaliation for yesterday's bombing of ships. Trump warned that if such incidents occur again, the consequences will be far graver. Prior to issuing the warning, Trump shared three videos seemingly depicting damage following the strikes, though he did not specify the exact location or time of filming. The content of these videos has not yet been independently verified, and the specific geographic location of one video remains unclear. The White House has not yet commented on the specific content shown in the videos.
