Nearly three weeks after the U.S. and Israel launched coordinated airstrikes on Iran—killing several senior Iranian leaders and severely damaging its weapons and energy infrastructure—Iran maintained a defiant stance on Friday (20th). Abolfazl Shekarchi, spokesperson for Iran’s Armed Forces, warned via state television that Tehran would target “parks, recreational areas, and tourist destinations” worldwide in devastating strikes against “evil” U.S. and Israeli officials, stressing that missile production has never ceased.

Shekarchi issued a direct warning to Washington and Tel Aviv: “From now on, based on our intelligence, even parks, recreational zones, and tourist destinations around the world will no longer be safe for you.” He added that Tehran continues to monitor U.S. and Israeli officials, commanders, and soldiers, and will persist with attacks against such targets.

The remarks have drawn significant international concern, with markets worried that Iran may expand its strike radius beyond the Middle East as a means of pressuring its adversaries. The threat carries particular weight during the global spring holiday travel season, when millions of university students and tourists are visiting popular destinations worldwide.

According to The Washington Post on Thursday (19th), unidentified drones have recently appeared repeatedly over Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, D.C.—a military installation currently housing U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The base lies just two miles (3.2 kilometers) from both the White House and Capitol Hill.

A senior U.S. government official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that multiple unidentified drones entered the airspace above Fort McNair on one night within the past 10 days. The incident prompted an emergency White House meeting and triggered an immediate upgrade of security protocols in the area. Officials briefly considered relocating Rubio and Hegseth to more secure facilities, though both remain at the base as of now.

Pentagon chief spokesperson Sean Parnell declined to comment, stating only that “for security reasons, we do not disclose details about the secretary’s movements,” and criticized media coverage as irresponsible.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military has elevated force protection levels at domestic bases nationwide:

- Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey and MacDill Air Force Base in Florida have been raised to “Charlie” alert status, indicating commanders possess credible intelligence suggesting an attack is “likely.”

- MacDill AFB, home to U.S. Central Command—which oversees operations against Iran—has been locked down twice this week: once due to a suspicious package and again following an unspecified security incident.

On Thursday (19th), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed Iran’s navy had been sunk, its air force significantly degraded, and its ballistic missile production capabilities destroyed.

However, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) swiftly rejected these assertions. Spokesperson Ali Mohammad Naeini stated that Iran continues producing missiles during wartime, maintaining stable stockpiles, and insisted “there is no issue whatsoever” with its arsenal. He added that Iran has no intention of ending the conflict quickly, declaring, “The war will continue until the enemy is utterly exhausted.”

Notably, Iran’s state-run television later confirmed that Naeini was killed in the recent airstrikes.

Given limited access to reliable information from inside Iran, the true extent of damage to its military, energy, and nuclear infrastructure remains unclear. Nevertheless, Tehran’s ongoing attacks on Persian Gulf energy facilities and its pressure on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz have already inflicted severe disruption on global energy supplies and economic outlooks.
