The FCA reminded investors to be cautious about the financial activities of blacklisted companies and advised investors to only deal with financial firms that have been authorised by the FCA. If you want to know if a company is authorised by the FCA, you can check the Financial Services Register. The register contains a "white list" of regulated companies and individuals.
If you deal with an unauthorised company, you will not be able to access the Financial Ombudsman Service or the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), in which case investors will be unlikely to get their money back if something goes wrong.
