According to the UK Maritime Trade Action Office (UKMTO), a missile hit ship occurred at 13:05 World Standard Time (21:05 Beijing Time) on Monday, 95 nautical miles southeast of Aden, Yemen (circled in red below).
Maritime safety company Ambrey later told the media that the attack was on a US shipping company owned bulk carrier, the Gibraltar Eagle, flying the flag of the Marshall Islands. According to navigation records, the Gibraltar Eagle departed from Pohang Port in South Korea on December 24th last year and is expected to arrive at Suez Port in Egypt on January 20th. Ambrey stated that the missile triggered a fire on the ship, but there were no casualties and the ship itself was able to continue moving.
This ship belongs to Eagle Bulk, a US listed company, and due to the US stock market being closed on Monday, there is currently no response from the capital market. Iger Bulk subsequently issued a statement confirming that its own ship had been attacked, revealing that the goods being transported on board were "iron products". The company confirmed that all sailors were not injured, and the damage to the cargo hold was limited. The ship is currently departing from the incident area.
Although the Houser armed forces have not yet made a clear statement, the US Central Command has confirmed this fact in a social media post and emphasized that the Gibraltar Eagle has not reported any casualties or serious damage to the ship. The US military also revealed that the Houser armed forces had launched an anti-ship missile earlier on Monday, but the missile failed to reach the sea and exploded directly on land.
After the British and American airstrikes, the Houser armed forces immediately announced that, in addition to originally targeting ships bound for Israel, all British and American interests had become the "legitimate targets" of the organization.
Ali al Qahoum, a member of the Yemeni Husei Armed Political Bureau, said that the US attack on Yemeni targets was "invalid", according to Türkiye's semi official Anadolu News Agency on Monday. At the same time, he promised to have an "open fight" with the US.
It is obvious that US President Biden has also made it clear that he will not hesitate to take further measures when needed. In last week's operation, the British and American forces bombed over 60 targets at 28 locations. In addition to fighter jets invading Yemen to drop bombs, American warships and submarines in the Red Sea region also participated in the operation. British Prime Minister Sunak also stated on Monday that the British military has destroyed 13 Houser armed targets.
According to the latest news on Monday, explosions were also heard near the airport in the coastal city of Hodeida on the west coast of Yemen after a US ship was attacked. It is currently unclear what caused the explosion (or who caused it).
