The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) announced yesterday that it has uncovered new cases of fraud posing as CySEC officers and representatives.
According to official sources, these criminals contact investors by phone or send unsolicited letters to investors or the public, and ask them to provide personal data, financial or other information.
In addition, fraudsters sought to charge investors a fee in exchange for the settlement of false compensation claims related to companies regulated by CySEC.
The Cypriot regulator urged the public to exercise extreme caution in the face of any unsolicited communications claiming to be from CySEC and to avoid providing funds to anyone claiming to represent CySEC.
This comes shortly after the CySEC revoked the Cyprus Investment Company authorization for Stone Edge Capital Ltd, number 311/16, due to repeated violations by the entity.
