Sibu Malaysia police reported that a 30-year-old woman lost RM37,217 in a forex investment scam after clicking on a Telegram link.
It is learnt that the victim made seven transactions in five different bank accounts from March 8 to 20 to earn points and 100% profit, and soon made a profit of RM237,439.
But when she tried to withdraw her money, the problem came when the platform asked her to pay RM41,447 as a deposit before she could withdraw her money.
After becoming suspicious and feeling cheated, the victim decided to report the matter to the police.
Sibu Police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the public must check with Bank Negara Malaysia before making any investment.
"We would also like to advise them not to be easily convinced if they are promised a return on their investment that is higher than that offered by a licensed financial institution," he added.
