The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) has issued a notice alerting investors to a fake CySEC website from India. CySEC said the fake website illegally copied all the content from the real CySEC website in an attempt to impersonate the real CySEC website.
The fake site had the domain name https://cysecgov.com/, while the real CySEC had the address https://www.cysec.gov.cy. In addition, another difference is that all the announcements on the fake website are only until October 2020, while the announcements on the real CySEC website are until August 2021.
"We would like to urge the public to be extremely careful and ensure that links to the official CySEC website are made, especially in cases where payment is required for an exam or for obtaining a CySEC licence, among other purposes," CySEC said.
In fact, this is not the first such fraud. On July 23, 2021, CySEC announced that fraudsters are impersonating CySEC officers or representatives to commit fraud or other criminal acts. CySEC urged the public to be vigilant.
CySEC reminds investors to exercise caution and vigilance by ensuring links to CySEC's official website, especially when payments are required through the JCC for examinations or other purposes, as well as licensed entities under the supervision of CySEC.
