The outcome of a recent telecommunications fraud case was unexpected. After losing 500,000 yuan in savings, the victim not only recovered the full amount through swift police intervention but also unexpectedly recovered double the initial sum. Recently, a woman from Taizhou, Jiangsu province, received a call from someone claiming to be customer service for a live-streaming platform. She was informed that an unauthorized monthly automatic deduction service had been activated, warning that 800 yuan would be deducted monthly if not cancelled promptly. Under panic, the woman followed the scammer's guidance to download an unknown application and enable screen sharing. After entering her bank card information, her phone suddenly went black, and the 500,000 yuan in her account was remotely emptied.
At a critical juncture, the mainland's anti-fraud warning system issued a timely alert. Police immediately disconnected the victim's phone from the internet and tracked the fund flow. By executing emergency stop-payment and freezing measures on the suspect accounts involved in the fraud, investigators discovered that a woman in Tangshan, Hebei province, had fallen victim to the exact same scam at the same time, with an identical amount of 500,000 yuan transferred away. Since the two fund chains were linked, police successfully blocked the illegal transfer of one million yuan. Currently, both victims have smoothly retrieved their funds. The Jiangsu victim's funds were originally intended for medical treatment, and she expressed gratitude for the police's rapid action.
Regarding such new fraud tactics, experts in the financial security field advise maintaining high vigilance when receiving calls involving personal account cancellations, screen sharing, or requests for verification codes. One should never easily disclose identity information or payment passwords. Once suspecting that the mobile phone might be remotely controlled, the most direct response is to immediately remove the SIM card, turn off network switches, and delete suspicious applications. Simultaneously, call the official anti-fraud hotline as soon as possible to maximize the reduction of property losses.
