SIX Group, the infrastructure operator in the Swiss financial center, has released key trading data for February 2023 on the SIX Swiss Exchange and the BME Exchange in Spain.


According to the released data, the total turnover of the two exchanges totaled CHF 158.4 billion, an increase of 19.5% compared with CHF 132.6 billion in January 2023. The total number of transactions was 6,844,532, down 4.9% from 7,179,014 in the previous month.


Swiss Stock Exchange key trading data


● In February 2023, turnover on the exchange was CHF 85.5 billion, down 3.9% month-on-month. There were 4,020,721 transactions, down 7.2% sequentially.


● Equity turnover was CHF 68.7 billion, down 1.6% quarter-on-quarter and 21.4% year-on-year. There were 3,816,432 transactions, down 7.1% sequentially and 29.7% year-over-year.


● Fixed income turnover was CHF 11.2 billion, down 17.9 per cent quarter-on-quarter and 12.1 per cent year-on-year. There were 36,732 transactions, an increase of 6.2% sequentially and 50.7% year-over-year.


● ETF (exchange traded funds) turnover was CHF 4.8 billion, up 2.1 per cent quarter-on-quarter and down 59.6 per cent year-on-year. Transactions were 131,362, down 13.1% sequentially and 21.0% year-over-year.


● Securitised derivatives turnover was CHF 684 million, down 10.2 per cent quarter-on-quarter and 54.1 per cent year-on-year. Transaction volume was 36,195, down 2.9% sequentially and 40.5% year-on-year.


● SMI® (Swiss Market Index) closed at 11,098.4 points at the end of February, down 1.7% from the previous month.


Spanish exchange key key data


● In February 2023, the turnover of the Spanish stock market was 73.123 billion euros, an increase of 66.7% month-on-month compared to 43,861 billion euros in January. Transactions totalled 2,823,811, down slightly by 1.0 per cent from 2,848,535 in January.


● Equity turnover was 24.7 billion euros, down 10.4% quarter-on-quarter and 27.8% year-on-year. The number of transactions was 2,569,860, down 9.3% sequentially and 37.4% year-on-year.


● Fixed income turnover was 13.7 billion euros, down 15.6% quarter-on-quarter and up 40.8% year-over-year. Transaction volume was 2,725, down 4.9% sequentially and up 57.1% year-over-year.


● ETF turnover was 96 million euros, up 0.7% quarter-on-quarter and down 45.0% year-on-year. There were 6,014 transactions, down 18.4% sequentially and up 39.5% year-over-year.


● Securitized derivatives turnover was €24 million, down 52.9% quarter-on-quarter and 35.1% year-on-year. The number of transactions was 5,055, an increase of 3.9% sequentially and a decrease of 41.1% year-on-year.


● The IBEX 35 (Spanish 35 index) closed at 9,394.6 at the end of February, up 3.9% from the previous month.
