In order to thoroughly implement the spirit of the Party's 20 National Congress, promote the rule of law in foreign exchange management, and enhance the transparency of foreign exchange management policies, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange recently updated and released the Catalogue of Main Regulations on Current Effective Foreign Exchange Management (as of December 31, 2022) (hereinafter referred to as the "Catalogue") for public inquiry and use.

The updated Catalogue includes 194 major foreign exchange regulations issued as of December 31, 2022, classified according to eight major items: comprehensive, current account foreign exchange management, capital account foreign exchange management, financial institutions' foreign exchange business supervision, RMB exchange rate and foreign exchange market, balance of payments and foreign exchange statistics, foreign exchange inspection and application of laws and regulations, and foreign exchange science and technology management. It is divided into several sub-items according to the specific business type. The new documents in this Catalogue mainly involve foreign exchange management of overseas investment, foreign exchange management of investment in the securities market, indirect declaration of international balance of payments statistics, etc.
