The trading volume of major institutional platforms worldwide in December 2022 has been announced. The results show that the overall trading volume shows a downward trend. This report covers the daily average trading volume (ADV) of currencies in five major institutional trading venues, namely Cboe FX, CLS, Euronext FX, FxSpotStream, and Refiniv, as shown in the following figure.
The daily average currency trading volume of these five companies in December 2022 has decreased compared to November. Overall, Cboe FX experienced the largest monthly decline of 16%, followed by Euronext FX and FxSpotStream, with 15% and 14.4% respectively. The monthly declines for CLS and Reinitiv were 13.5% and 10.4%, respectively.

Cboe FX
The total trading volume of Cboe FX in December 2022 was $773 billion, a 16% decrease from $921 billion in November 2022. However, compared to $681 billion in December 2021, this data increased by 13% year-on-year.
In addition, the average daily trading volume (ADV) of the institution's currency against trading venues this month was $35.1 billion, a 16% decrease from November 2022's $41.8 billion. However, the average daily trading volume for this month increased by 19% year-on-year from December last year's $29.6 billion.
CLS
The daily average trading volume (ADTV) processed by CLS in December 2022 was only $1.704 trillion, a 10% decrease compared to the previous month. CLS has reported a decrease in daily average trading volume for three consecutive months. Among them, the daily average trading volume in November was $1.892 trillion, a decrease of 2% compared to the previous month; In October, it was $1.928 trillion, a decrease of 5% compared to the previous month. However, compared to $1.648 trillion in December 2021, the daily average trading volume processed by CLS in December increased slightly by 3%.
In December 2022, the daily average trading volume of currency to forward, currency to swap, and currency to spot processed by CLS was $0.107 trillion, $1.188 trillion, and $0.409 trillion, respectively, a decrease from $0.145 trillion, $1.274 trillion, and $0.473 trillion in December 2021.
Pan European Exchange
The total trading volume of Euronext currency to market was $394.561 billion, a decrease of 14.9% compared to $463.708 billion in November 2022 and a decrease of 3.1% compared to $407.263 billion in December 2021.
The daily average trading volume of the currency against the market for the month was $17.935 billion, a decrease of 14.9% compared to $21.078 billion in November 2022, but a slight increase of 1.3% compared to $17.707 billion in December 2021.
FxSpotStream
In December 2022, the total transaction volume of FXSpotStream was $1267.233 billion, a decrease of 14.4% compared to the previous month's $148.051 billion, but an increase of 28.4% compared to the December 2021 $986.56 billion.
The company's average daily trading volume (ADV) in December was $57.602 billion, a decrease of 14.4% compared to November's $67275 billion, but an increase of 34.3% compared to the same period in 2021's $42.894 billion.
Reinitiv
In December 2022, the daily average trading volume of Reinitiv was $86 billion, a decrease of 10.4% compared to November 2022.
