On the same day, Xue Yongheng attended the signing ceremony of the agreement on the establishment of a joint scientific and technological innovation investment platform between China Resources Entrepreneurship and City University of Hong Kong. In his speech at the conference, he said that in recent years, various indicators and figures related to innovation and technology in Hong Kong have seen very good growth. For example, there are now more than 3,700 local start-ups in Hong Kong, which is three and a half times that of 2014; There are already 12 "unicorn" companies in Hong Kong.
Mr Xue said that in her policy address delivered in early October, HKSAR Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor put forward a number of forward-looking and ground-breaking measures related to innovation and technology to build a more complete innovation and technology ecosystem for Hong Kong through infrastructure development, promoting research and development, investing in technology and supporting start-ups.
Xue Yongheng said that as the national "14th Five-Year Plan" clearly supports Hong Kong to build an international innovation and technology center, Hong Kong's innovation industry will usher in a golden age, so we must seize the opportunity to further promote the pace of innovation development.
He said that the development of innovation in Hong Kong depends on the joint efforts of all sectors, and the active investment of "government, industry, education and research" is equally important. Through the cooperation between enterprises and universities, the advantages of both sides can be used to produce a strong synergistic effect and accelerate the transformation of scientific research results.
